📢 Big Medicare Changes for 2026
As of January 1, 2026, most Vermonters will lose their Medicare Advantage coverage. UnitedHealthcare and Vermont Blue Advantage are both leaving the market, and Humana will only remain in a handful of counties. In New Hampshire, UnitedHealthcare is leaving Sullivan and Grafton counties.
👉 Here’s what that means for you:
In many counties, there will be no Medicare Advantage plan available.
Even in counties where Advantage plans remain, many are non-commissionable, meaning most agents (myself included) cannot enroll or service them directly.
Everyone losing an Advantage plan will have Guaranteed Issue rights to a Medicare Supplement. This means no health questions, but often limited agent support because compensation is reduced or eliminated.
Some people may still qualify for the Health-Question option, which gives access to the same premiums but with different rules for approval and agent servicing.
💡 Our role at The Rockwood Agency is to provide clarity and a soft landing. We are contracted with several strong carriers, including Aflac and WellCare, along with others, to streamline this process and offer more options where they’re available.
👉 We will begin Medicare appointments the week of October 20th. With so many people impacted, we will do our best to communicate timely and effectively with our clients and surrounding communities .
When programs change, guidance matters. Whether it’s Medicare, tax planning, or retirement, our agency remains a place you can trust for straight answers and steady support.
