💬 Business Owner Question Wednesday

Here’s a fun one today.

What’s something you know NOW about running a business that you wish someone had told you when you started?

Maybe it’s how much time administrative work takes.

Maybe it’s that revenue doesn’t automatically equal money in your pocket.

Maybe it’s learning to say no.

Maybe it’s realizing you can’t and shouldn’t do everything yourself.

Or maybe it’s something completely unexpected.

There’s so much that goes into owning a business that nobody really teaches you before you start.

And sometimes another business owner’s hard earned lesson is exactly what someone else needs to hear.

👇 Finish this sentence in the comments:

“I wish someone had told me __________ before I started my business.”

I can’t wait to read these!

📚 Bookkeeping Tip Tuesday

A transfer is not an expense.

Moving money from your business checking account to your business savings account doesn’t mean your business spent that money.

Paying your business credit card from your checking account isn’t a second expense either.

The expense happened when you originally used the credit card to make the purchase.

Why does this matter?

If transfers or credit card payments are categorized incorrectly, you can accidentally count expenses twice and make your Profit & Loss look very different from what actually happened.

This is one of those little bookkeeping details that can have a big impact on your financial reports.

Accurate bookkeeping isn’t just about recording transactions. It’s about recording them correctly so your numbers tell the real story of your business.

💰 Money Tip Monday

One of the simplest habits you can build in your business is also one of the easiest to overlook:

Know what’s coming out of your account before it comes out.

Automatic payments are convenient, but they can also become invisible.

Software subscriptions, memberships, insurance, loan payments, recurring services, and other automatic charges can quietly add up every month.

Take a few minutes this week to review your recurring expenses.

Ask yourself:

💵 Do I still use this?

📈 Is this helping my business?

🔎 Has the price increased without me noticing?

✂️ Is there something I’m paying for twice or could eliminate?

You don’t necessarily need to cut expenses just for the sake of cutting them. The goal is to make sure your money is being spent intentionally.

A $20 or $50 monthly charge might not seem significant, but several unnecessary subscriptions over an entire year can add up quickly.

When was the last time you reviewed your recurring business expenses?

🌿 Sunday Reset

Before the new week begins, take a few minutes to check in with your business.

You don’t need to spend your entire Sunday working. Even a quick review can make Monday feel a lot less overwhelming.

Take a look at what needs your attention this week.

📅 What bills or payments are coming up?

💵 Are there invoices you’re waiting to be paid?

🧾 Are there receipts or expenses you need to organize?

📊 Is there anything in your numbers you’ve been meaning to look into?

Then choose your top three priorities for the week and give yourself permission to leave the rest for tomorrow.

A little preparation can make a big difference when Monday morning arrives.

What’s one thing you want to accomplish in your business this week? 👇

📊 Financial Friday

Your bank balance and your profit are not the same thing.

It’s one of the easiest things to confuse when you’re running a business.

You can have money sitting in the bank and still have upcoming bills, credit card balances, loan payments, payroll, taxes, or other expenses that haven’t hit the account yet.

On the other hand, your Profit & Loss might show a profit even when your bank balance feels surprisingly low.

That’s why looking at just one number doesn’t give you the full picture.

Good financial management means understanding where your money came from, where it went, what you owe, and what your business actually earned.

Your bank balance tells you what’s available right now.

Your financial reports help tell you how your business is actually doing.

Knowing the difference can help you make much more confident decisions about spending, saving, and growing your business.

📊 Do you regularly review your financial reports, or are you mostly watching your bank balance?

👋 Get to Know Your Bookkeeper Thursday

When you hire a bookkeeper, you’re trusting someone with a pretty important part of your business.

But the goal shouldn’t just be to have someone enter transactions and reconcile accounts.

You should have someone who helps make the financial side of your business feel less overwhelming and more useful.

That means being able to ask questions when something doesn’t make sense.

It means receiving reports you can actually understand.

It means knowing your books are being looked at consistently instead of scrambling when tax time arrives.

And most importantly, it means having more time to focus on the parts of your business that actually need you.

That’s the kind of relationship I want my clients to have with Tab’s Tabulations Bookkeeping.

Your bookkeeping should support your business, not become another thing on your to do list.

💬 Business Owner Question Wednesday

Let’s talk about something almost every business owner has dealt with at some point.

What’s one part of running your business that you wish you could take off your plate?

Maybe it’s:

🧾 Keeping up with receipts

📚 Bookkeeping

💵 Following up on unpaid invoices

📱 Social media

📧 Emails and administrative work

📊 Trying to understand your financial reports

🗓️ Or simply keeping up with everything that needs to get done

Running a business often means wearing way too many hats. Just because you can do something yourself doesn’t always mean it’s the best use of your time.

Sometimes growth comes from figuring out which things truly need you and which things can be handed off.

So I’m curious…

If you could permanently remove ONE task from your business to do list, what would it be? 👇

And if bookkeeping happens to be your answer, Tab’s Tabulations Bookkeeping would be happy to help with that one. 😊

📚 Bookkeeping Basics Tuesday

Are you mixing business and personal expenses?

It might seem harmless to grab the wrong card at checkout or pay a business bill from your personal account, especially when you’re the only person running the business.

But when those transactions start piling up, your bookkeeping can get messy fast.

Keeping your business and personal finances separate makes it easier to:

🧾 Track legitimate business expenses

📊 Understand how your business is actually performing

💰 Prepare for tax time

🔎 Reconcile your accounts accurately

📁 Maintain clean, organized financial records

One of the simplest habits you can create as a business owner is to have dedicated business bank and credit card accounts and actually use them consistently.

Already mixed a few things together? Don’t panic. They can be recorded correctly. The goal is to create better habits moving forward.

Good bookkeeping starts with clear separation.

Do you keep your business and personal spending completely separate, or does the wrong card occasionally sneak in? 👇
