📢 Big news for Medicare beneficiaries — especially if you've been prescribed a weight-loss medication.
Starting July 1, 2026, Medicare is launching the GLP-1 Bridge Program, which covers FDA-approved weight-loss medications — Wegovy®, Zepbound®, and Foundayo® — for eligible Part D members through December 31, 2027.
This is a major change. Medicare has never covered these medications for weight loss before.
You may qualify if you have Medicare Part D and:
✅ BMI ≥ 35, OR
✅ BMI ≥ 30 with heart failure, high blood pressure, or kidney disease, OR
✅ BMI ≥ 27 with pre-diabetes, prior heart attack, stroke, or peripheral artery disease
Cost: a flat $50/month copay — regardless of your plan or benefit stage.
Your doctor handles the prior authorization — and it runs completely separate from your existing Medicare plan, so no changes needed on your end.

While I applaud Dr. Oz and CMS for sending out this message, he should have clarified that Medicare Insurance Agents are required to obtain a signed Scope of Appointment prior to helping a beneficiary.

Why use a licensed Medicare Insurance agent over SHIP? SERVICE & ACCURACY

In a recent study conducted by the Journal of American Medicine Association's "Open Network", out of 306 attempted shopper encounters, 40% couldn't be completed, mainly due to no return calls.

Among the 184 completed, only 40% of answers were accurate and complete. Accuracy varied widely by question type—from 26.1% for provider-network queries to 94.3% for Medicare plan differences.

Inaccurate responses were uncommon (6.7% on average). Less than half of counselors (44.8%) mentioned D-SNPs to shoppers posing as dual-eligible individuals.
