Medicare - Employee Benefits - Health - Dental - Vision

06/10/2026

One of the biggest draws of enrolling in Medicare Advantage is the potential to save money on premiums. Plus, you get extra perks like dental, vision, cash back, and groceries. However, starting in 2026, many of these valuable benefits are quietly being scaled back.

OTC allowances, grocery and meal cards, and transportation benefits are all seeing cuts in availability and dollar amounts. For instance, in 2025, about 73% of Medicare Advantage plans offered an OTC allowance, but that number drops to around 66% in 2026. Meal and grocery benefits are also shrinking—from roughly 65% of plans in 2025 to 57% in 2026. Transportation coverage, including services like Uber and Lyft, is declining too—from approximately 30% in 2025 to 24% in 2026.

This shift is expected. Carriers spent heavily to attract new members, and now, as costs must be controlled, these extra perks are among the first to be cut. Still, core medical coverage, hospitals, and essential services like vision, dental, and hearing remain protected by Medicare regulations.

This trend means you can no longer assume that the extras you enjoyed this year will be there next year. It’s worth asking: is the lower premium enough to offset the reduced network options and higher out-of-pocket costs?

Remember, there’s no such thing as a free lunch in healthcare. The Annual Election Period begins October 15, 2026, for coverage starting in January 2027. It’s time to reconsider if Medicare Advantage still meets your needs.

**MEDICARE SUPPLEMENTS: Update on Rate Adjustments**

We would like to bring to your attention the recent adjustments in Medicare supplement rates that have begun to emerge in quoting systems across Florida. The initial findings have shown some notable increases.

As of now, many Medicare supplement companies in Broward and Miami-Dade counties are experiencing rate increases ranging from 15% to 25%. While this is just the beginning of the process, we anticipate that similar trends may be observed statewide.

Specifically, AARP has indicated a rate increase of over 20% in Broward and Miami-Dade counties, and United American has reported an 18.5% increase in Broward County.

We are committed to assisting you in reassessing your options and exploring potential changes to your current plan within the same company, as Florida offers guaranteed issue protections in certain cases. It is important to note that Medicare Supplement plans can change at any time of the year.

Options to switch to a similar, lower, or higher-premium plan may be available, though some changes will require medical underwriting.

We understand that each situation is unique, and we are here to provide support. If you would like to schedule a consultation, please feel free to reach out to Eve at 954-228-8150. We are eager to assist you in analyzing your choices and ensuring you make informed decisions.

MAJOR UPDATE: All Medicare Advantage Plans will LOSE "all SUPPLEMENTAL extra benefits" like money for groceries, etc., starting in 2026!

***This does NOT affect Medicare Supplement programs or Part D plans, as these plans currently do NOT have these benefits.***

However, there is a BIG exception.

Clients on DUAL (Medicare-Medicaid) Medicare Advantage plans (D-SNPs) and Chronic Special Needs (CSNPs) Medicare Advantage plans AND ACCEPT assistance from the plan's case manager program WILL RETAIN the extra supplemental benefits, such as payments for utilities and groceries.

This will be a SIGNIFICANT change for Medicare Advantage plans from Humana, AARP, Preferred, Medica, Devoted, Simply, and many more, if their plan includes 2025 supplemental benefits and the beneficiary is not enrolled in a case manager-controlled Medicare Advantage program.

We highly recommend those in non-case manager style plans to call their broker to get more information AND set an appointment for open enrollment.

Please like our page: https://www.facebook.com/IncompasFinancialInc, as there are many more changes that are coming!

More to come!

UPDATE AMENDMENT: Contradictory information is coming from insurance companies. More to come. There is disagreement between DUAL and CHRONIC special needs plans.

MAJOR ANNOUNCEMENT: The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid (CMS) is terminating the Medicare Advantage (MA) Value-Based Insurance Design (VBID) at the end of 2025.

THE MA VBID model gives participating MA plans the flexibility to offer non-health-related supplemental benefits, such as healthy food and utilities, and cost-sharing assistance for prescription drugs to chronically ill and underserved populations.

What does this mean for Floridians and Americans at large?

That means that with beneficiaries on a Medicare Advantage plan with some subsidy or cash to be used towards healthy food, utilities, etc., will stop.

Please make sure you enjoy them while they last!
