By now you’ve heard, the Tropical Storm endorsement triggered for Wayne and adjacent counties (As well as many more in ENC)! This certainly will help put some wind into the sails of growers who’ve been fighting through a very tough year.

Growers should expect 50% of their total hurricane indemnity, assuming they have the tropical storm rider.

US Crop condition ratings yesterday stated that NC corn dropped down to 52% “Good/Excellent” rating from the week before, which was 74% ! Largest drop in the nation!

The 2023 “expected area yield” for corn is shown in the image. The 2023 ”actual area yield” for corn and bean will be released this spring or summer.

Why does it matter?

A counties expected yield vs actual yield can determine claim payouts for programs like SCO, ECO, ARC, PLC and STAX(for cotton).
It’s good practice to be aware of the numbers to know if you may be subject to a claim.
