If you’ve been in insurance, sales, or recruiting for any amount of time, you’ve probably had that experience with an upline, agency, or recruiting opportunity.

- Contract levels that weren’t what you were told

Sometimes the best way to fix the industry is to start by talking about the problems openly.

If you’re not happy… change something.

That sounds simple, but in the insurance industry it’s one of the hardest things for people to actually do.

I talk to agents all the time who say:
“I’m burned out.”
“My numbers aren’t where they should be.”
“I feel stuck.”

But when you really break it down, most of them are still running the same playbook they were running a year ago.

Same schedule.
Same leads.
Same scripts.
Same habits.
And they’re hoping the results somehow change.

Insurance is one of the few industries where small adjustments in behavior can completely change your career trajectory.

If you’re an agent, the change might be:
*Increasing your daily activity by 20%.
*Shifting from being reactive to proactive with your pipeline.
*Getting uncomfortable and learning how to truly control the conversation.
*Committing to mastering one niche market instead of chasing everything.

Sometimes the difference between a $60k producer and a $300k producer isn’t talent — it’s structure and discipline.

If you’re an agency owner, the change might look different.
It might mean:
*Rebuilding the expectations you set for producers.
*Investing in real training instead of hoping people “figure it out.”
*Building systems that create consistency instead of relying on motivation.
*Being honest about who belongs on the team and who doesn’t.

Because the truth is, agencies don’t grow from hope — they grow from intentional leadership and systems.
The good news about this business is that you don’t need permission to change things.

You can adjust your activity today.
You can improve your process today.
You can raise your standards today.

Sometimes the thing standing between frustration and momentum is simply the willingness to say:
“What I’m doing right now isn’t working… so I’m going to change it.”
That’s where growth in this industry actually starts.

I know I have said this before in a previous post but the industry is changing and the time for diversification is now. If you want to survive and thrive, you need to set up as a total package solution for the beneficiary. HIPs are easy to sell, especially if they have a core MAPD plan. Final expense is admittedly harder but there's good cross sell ability there too with good upside for the agency/agent.

This field can get really complex but none of it is rocket science. If you have the right systems, the right team, and the right products...you will survive the changes and thrive on the other side. Don't get caught under the wave and trick yourself into thinking you can keep just writing volume with no retention and no diversification of products and somehow have a good exit number when you sell your business down the line. That mindset will ensure you don't have a good timeline right from the rip.

Find the people who pour into you while you pour into them. People like that are hard to find so when you get that connection, keep it going. Clay has been a great friend and professional connect for a number of years now and I am blessed to have him in my network. Super solid dude with a super solid knowledge base and ex*****on standard.
