UPDATE 9:45 a.m.: Sheriff David Morgan has confirmed that four people are dead following a shooting at NAS Pensacola Friday morning, including the shooter.

Total injured, including deceased, are 11, according to Morgan. Seven patients are currently being treated at Baptist Hospital.

An active shooter has been reported at Naval Air Station Pensacola.

Children are a tremendous responsibility, financially taxing and incredibly rewarding. And there inevitably comes a point where, as a parent, you need to cut the purse strings, confident you have raised an independent adult who can sustain themselves financially.

Prepare your children early in life to be financially independent. If not, your retirement plan may need to include funding your irresponsible adult child's lifestyle, in addition to funding your own retirement.

I've had life insurance coverage in place since my wife and I had our first child, but I've added to our coverage several times as our family has grown. These days, I have around $2.5 million in term life insurance coverage for my wife and kids, which is probably more than they could ever need if I should suddenly pass away.

Many experts say you should get 10 times your income in life insurance coverage. As a financial adviser, however, I tend to believe that's not enough.

Question: My wife and I have been married for two years and we just had our first child. A friend of mine sells life insurance and says I should buy a life insurance policy on my daughter. He says it would be very cheap and would be a good way to save for her future. I’m not sure I like the idea, but what do you think?
