A $1,000 "Newborn Bonus"? 👶💰
A new federal savings program is launching on July 4, 2026, and it could change how you invest for your children.

The "Trump Account" offers:
• Potential $1,000 government deposits for eligible kids.
• Tax-deferred growth (like a Traditional IRA).
• Annual contribution limits of up to $5,000.

But is it better than a 529 plan or other investment options? There are some specific investment restrictions and tax rules you need to know before the launch.

Aegean Culyan has broken down the pros, cons, and eligibility requirements in our latest guide.

Q1 tax planning = your last chance to fix 2025 + set up 2026 for tax success đź’°

Here's what Abby McCloskey and Cheryl Starr are reviewing with clients right now:

âś… New 2026 catch-up rules (if you're 50+ and earning $145K+, this affects you)
âś… Prior-year contributions that can still reduce your 2025 tax bill
âś… Withholding adjustments that help prevent year-end surprises

When it comes to taxes, one gear turns another. Your catch-up contributions affect withholding. RSUs change your bracket. Deferred comp impacts cash flow.

We help you see how it all connects before April catches you off guard.

Stock options are often one of the most valuable parts of your compensation package—but they can also be incredibly complex.

This is exactly the kind of decision we help clients work through. We track your grants, model scenarios, and identify optimal timing windows that align with your bigger financial goals like retirement or college funding.

If you're sitting on equity compensation and wondering if there's a better approach than "wait and see," let's talk about it.

Our Connect Meeting is designed to explore your situation without any pressure or paperwork. Just a meaningful conversation about where you are, where you want to go, and how strategic planning around things like stock options can help you get there.

Scenario: You get a notification that 5,000 stock options are about to vest.

The stock price looks good. You're thinking about exercising. Then the questions start:

âť“ Should I exercise and hold or exercise and sell?
âť“ What's the tax impact?
âť“ Will this affect my retirement timeline?

These questions can feel overwhelming when you're already juggling work, family, and everything else.

That's why we work with clients to map out their grants, model different scenarios, and identify timing that works with their bigger financial picture, so decisions don't have to feel rushed or stressful.

Unpopular opinion: "Exercise your stock options early to minimize taxes" is only half the story.

It feels like everyone repeats this advice. And yes, exercising early can reduce the spread between your strike price and fair market value.

But here's what that advice misses:
➡️ If you exercise ISOs early and the stock price drops, you're paying taxes on gains that no longer exist
➡️ If you exercise during your kid's FAFSA income window, you might eliminate tens of thousands in financial aid
➡️ If you exercise without checking AMT thresholds, you could trigger an unexpected tax bill with no cash to cover it

The better advice: Exercise strategically based on YOUR complete financial picture, not generic timing rules.

What's one piece of stock option advice you've heard that turned out to be way more complicated in practice?

Your business is making more money than ever. So why doesn't it feel that way?

We see this all the time with business owners earning $400K+. The structure that made sense at startup is now quietly costing them in taxes, retirement savings, and future Social Security benefits.

Michael Sicuranza and Cheryl Starr tackle this equation in our new guide to business tax strategy.

What's inside:
→ Entity structure decisions (LLC vs. S-corp timing)
→ Compensation strategy that balances taxes and retirement
→ Pre-retirement considerations every business owner needs

The LLC structure you set up years ago might be costing you thousands in unnecessary taxes.

When your business is just starting out, an LLC taxed as a partnership usually makes sense.

But once you're consistently earning $400K-$500K+? That's often the inflection point where an S-corp election starts saving real money.
The key is timing.

Switch too early → you might limit your retirement contributions

Wait too long → you're overpaying on self-employment taxes for years

This is exactly why entity structure reviews matter as your business grows. What worked at $200K doesn't always work at $500K.

Our latest guide from Michael Sicuranza and Cheryl Starr breaks down how to think about this decision (and why having an advisor who can run the numbers with you makes all the difference).

What questions do you have about entity structure as your business scales?

What happens when you don’t pay yourself enough?
When you keep your salary artificially low to "save on taxes," you're also potentially:

→ Shrinking your Social Security benefits (and your spouse's)
→ Limiting how much you can contribute to retirement accounts
→ Making your business harder to sell when it's time to exit
That's exactly the sort of thing we talk through in a Connect Meeting—no pressure, no paperwork. Just an honest look at whether your business structure is actually building wealth (or quietly working against you).

If you're a business owner with questions about your business’s taxes and structure, let's talk.

Should you do a Roth conversion this year or wait? How much can you gift without impacting your long-term security? Which charitable strategy maximizes both impact and tax benefits?

As Abby McCloskey shares in her year-end planning guide, the most valuable strategies are the ones customized to your unique circumstances.

The answers to those questions depend on your tax bracket, your timeline, your family goals, and what you're building toward.

That's the difference between financial advice and financial partnership. Learn more in our Connect Meeting, a time for you to ask questions, gain insights, and take the first step toward a stronger 2026.
