Podcast Drop! E51: Kenneth Waldroup - Cape Fear Public Utility Authority (CFPUA)
Cape Fear Public Utility Authority ( ) produces some of the highest quality water in the nation from our Sweeny Water plant, right here in Wilmington, NC. It is now a benchmark for quality, where local utility and municipality leaders visit to learn about our systems and processes.
“Now that's what I call high quality H₂O” !!
Did you know that , NC had one of the first water systems in North Carolina, with the private Clarendon Waterworks established in 1881?
The City of Wilmington purchased the water system around 1901 and later acquired the private sewage system. For about 95 years, the City provided water and sewer service. In 1984, New Hanover County formed its own water and sewer district to consolidate smaller neighborhood systems outside the City.
CFPUA was formed in 2007, opening its doors in 2008, in response to environmental challenges, including sanitary sewer overflows, at the suggestion of federal and state governments.
Kenneth Waldroup, thank you very much for taking the time to share all of the facts, details and history of CFPUA. Appreciate you and your team very much!
