In 2014, Dolly shared one deeply personal funeral wish. She wanted the old country-gospel hymn “If We Never Meet Again” sung at her funeral.

Why that song?

It was her father’s favorite. Her family sang it at his funeral, and Dolly wanted the same song at hers. She also requested a small, private funeral service limited to immediate family.

She even decided years in advance who would announce her death to the world. She chose her nephew and longtime head of security, Bryan Seaver.

Dolly Parton spent her life giving back. Now, her family is asking fans to honor her legacy by continuing one of the causes closest to her heart.

In lieu of flowers, Dolly’s family has asked for donations to Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library, the childhood literacy program she founded in 1995. The inspiration came from her father, Robert Lee Parton, who never learned to read or write.

Today, the program has delivered more than 330 million books to children across five countries.

It is a meaningful way to remember a life. Instead of flowers, her memory helps put another book into a child’s hands.
