New from the Coming To Life™ Collection by XceptionalMint™
The second breathtaking release in the XceptionalMint Coming To Life series: the iconic Buffalo Nickel (also known as the Indian Head Nickel)—one of the most beloved and instantly recognizable designs in American numismatic history.
Originally sculpted by legendary artist James Earle Fraser in 1913, this timeless masterpiece captures the spirit of the American West with profound detail: a dignified Native American profile on the obverse (a composite inspired by real tribal leaders) and a powerful American Bison standing on a mound on the reverse—a true symbol of frontier strength and heritage.
XceptionalMint brings this classic to life like never before. We collaborate with former U.S. Mint designers, engravers, and visionaries to revive unproduced concepts and push the boundaries of minting artistry. Partnering with top global mints and issuing authorities, we blend masterful hand-crafted technique with innovative technology to deliver coins of extraordinary beauty, depth, and historical significance for discerning collectors.
This edition features groundbreaking Beyond Relief™ technology—developed in collaboration with Michael Gaudioso and three specialized firms. Going far beyond traditional High Relief or even Ultra-High Relief methods, Beyond Relief extends the sculptural depth dramatically, allowing elements to literally “come to life” with unprecedented three-dimensional presence, texture, and lifelike detail that leaps off the surface.
About the Artist: Michael Gaudioso
A distinguished American sculptor, engraver, and medallic artist, Michael Gaudioso earned his BFA from the University of the Arts in Philadelphia and his MFA from the New York Academy of Art’s Graduate School of Figurative Art. He spent over a decade (2008–2020) as a key member of the United States Mint’s engraving staff in Philadelphia, where he sculpted and engraved designs for more than 35 coins and medals. His most celebrated contribution: engraving the stunning reverse of the 2021 Type 2 American Silver Eagle—a major redesign that has defined the series for a new generation. Now retired from the Mint, Michael channels his expertise into passion projects like this Buffalo Nickel reimagining, where creative freedom allows his artistry to flourish without traditional constraints.
