Last week I spoke to a room full of entrepreneurs about something most people never think about.

We insure our cars. Our phones. Our homes. But not our income, the thing that pays for all of it.

Most assume accidents are the leading cause of disability. They’re not. The real leaders are musculoskeletal conditions, cancer, and mental health disorders like anxiety and depression.

Two points I made:

1. Protect your most valuable asset. What is that, you ask? Your ability to earn.

Let’s do simple math. Say you’re 30 years old making $100K a year. Without a single raise or adjusting for inflation, you’re a $3 million person walking around. That’s the number we’re protecting.

2. Know your workplace benefits. I shouldn’t know them better than you do.

People assume they’re covered because they have savings, a large investment account, or a spouse who earns well. But if you can’t work for 30 years, that’s millions left on the table.

Give me a call and we can go over your benefits together.

One of the most rewarding parts of coaching and my time working in the NBA was helping people who couldn’t quite see their own potential yet, while continuing to believe in them until they finally believed in themselves.

Everything we do as coaches is built on trust. Trust isn’t created overnight. It’s earned by consistently showing up, telling the truth with respect, leading with empathy, and understanding that everyone is carrying something you may never see.

I’ve had the privilege of coaching and mentoring more than 10 professional athletes, with six eventually reaching the NBA. Watching someone like Austin Reaves who I worked with at Oklahoma, go from being overlooked to signing a 4-year, $180 million contract with the Los Angeles Lakers is incredible. But my favorite moments have never been the contracts or the headlines. They’ve been sitting down with those athletes years later and simply telling them, I’m proud of you.

Being a former coach has helped me immensely in my career as a advisor because the principles are the same.

To all my coaches:

My team and I work with coaches across all levels of sports from high school to the NBA and NFL.

One thing I’ve learned after countless meetings is that sports people enjoy working with other sports people. There’s a different level of trust because we understand the demands, transitions, and pressure that come with coaching.

Coaches are busy managing teams, recruiting, roster changes, and preparing to win. That’s where our team adds value.

Many coaches don’t realize that career moves and increases in income can create major financial planning opportunities especially around tax strategies, retirement planning, and insurance protection. The coverage you set up early in your career may not match where you are today.

If you’re a coach and want a team that understands your world, send me a DM. Let us help take one thing off your plate so you can focus on your team and your family.

Had fun at the 2026 Washburn Golf Classic at Topeka Country Club.

I got the chance to catch up with old teammates, coaches, mentors, fellow basketball alumni, and classmates from my time in Topeka. Washburn University is such a great community, and the turnout really reflected that.

I loved the small community atmosphere in college, and I still stay in touch with professors from both undergrad and graduate school. That same feeling is what I try to create in my practice, a true community and family atmosphere.

I’m still unsure where we finished on the leaderboard, but since I haven’t received any notifications yet, I’m guessing we probably didn’t win anything.

The McAdams Spring scramble, what a great event.

It may have been cold (definitely my excuse), but the turnout at Sand Creek was strong. Beautiful scenery and some great shots throughout the day.

The whole day felt like I was on set for Kings of Comedy. I couldn’t stop laughing. There’s nothing like playing golf knowing the second you mess up, the trash talk is coming right behind it.

I pulled up in the Sunday red trying to intimidate the competition but clearly that didn’t work, as we finished outside the top 5. But I will say wearing red gets you in a lot of photos.

It was great to be part of a community that’s been going strong for so long. Thanks Kevass J. Harding for the invite.

Not a Shocker alum 🖤💛, but giving back always makes sense and the colors do align with my LSU Tigers 💜💛. Anytime there’s a chance to pour into our youth, count me in.

Reading Dr. Seuss still makes me nervous I’m guaranteed to trip over at least one “kid friendly” word 😅

Thank you to the Wichita State University Foundation and Alumni Engagement team for the opportunity.

Men, get involved. Our presence matters!

Had the opportunity to be a part of the mentorship program with the Wichita State University Barton School of Business this past fall. I genuinely enjoyed spending time with the students learning their stories, sharing experiences, and watching them grow week after week.

Over the five-week program, the students learned professional etiquette, built confidence, and made meaningful connections. These are the next generation of leaders in our communities, and it was an honor to support their journey.

Great spending some time with Brad Mann today while Gabe Jordan was working. Two incredible people who are out there in their communities and in the trenches doing the work. Brad’s heart for ministry and passion for basketball is inspiring. As a business owner, he’s leading by example stewarding his staff well and living out his values daily.

I truly enjoyed our lunch and the conversation around how we can continue to impact the people we encounter. Livin The Dream is touching lives in a powerful way, and I’m proud to call Brad a friend.

If you value genuine relationships, someone who listens and clarity, let’s connect.
