Here's a number that keeps me up at night: according to a 2025 Edward Jones and Morning Consult study, 92% of caregivers worry about retirement security. We're talking about 40% of American adults who've sacrificed their careers, their savings and often their own well-being to care for loved ones.
One of the great privileges I have at Edward Jones is serving as the Kansas State co-chair on our Grassroots Task Force. Caregiver legislation has been a policy priority for many years, which is why I was pleased to see the recent reintroduction of two very important pieces of caregiving legislation: the Improving Retirement Security for Family Caregivers Act and Catching Up Family Caregivers Act.
These bipartisan bills create practical solutions by expanding retirement contribution opportunities for caregivers who've reduced employment, allowing additional catch-up contributions and waiving earned income requirements for Roth IRA contributions.
When we support caregivers, we strengthen families and communities. It's time to ensure those who care for others can also secure their own financial futures.
