Is your college student home for the summer? Great to have the kiddos home, but often leaves parents wondering: Should my college student stay on my auto policy?

Most of the time, yes.

If they still come home and drive your cars, are your dependent, or take a car to school, they probably still need to be listed. If they are away at school without a car, they may even qualify for a student away at school discount.

🎶 It's raining, it's pouring… and while I may not be snoring, I was less than thrilled to find water in the basement today when I went downstairs. 🤬

So here's your rainy-day PSA...

If you're like us and don't venture into the basement every day, now might be a good time to take a peek.

In this kind of humidity, mold doesn't waste time. A small leak, seepage around a window, or a little water around the sump pump can become a much bigger (and much smellier) problem before you know it.

And while we're talking about water, here's an insurance distinction that trips up a lot of people:

💧 Water Backup Coverage
This generally covers water that backs up through drains, sewers, or overflows from a sump pump. Think: "water that should have gone out, but came back in." You need an endorsement on your home policy to cover this generally.

🌊 Flood Coverage
Flooding is water that comes from outside your home and rises into it like heavy rain, overflowing creeks, or water accumulating on the ground. Flood damage is generally NOT covered by homeowners insurance and requires a separate flood policy which we can certainly help with if you are concerned. Two kinds of water and two very different coverages.

Please, please, please follow my advise… go check the basement and avoid the lunch hour I had as I pulled up carpet in my suit and heels.
