REITs have reported solid year-over-year increases in funds from operations (FFO) and net operating income (NOI), despite economic headwinds, according to the Nareit Total REIT Industry Tracker Series report.

The data also showed that REITs have maintained strong balance sheets, with low levels of leverage and long-term, well-structured debt, and they paid out $61.9bn in total dividends in 2022, a 13.8% increase over the previous year.

The U.S. Census Bureau and the Department of Housing and Urban Development have now published their findings for January's new residential housing starts. The latest reading of 1.309M was below the Investing.com forecast of 1.360M and is a 4.5% decrease from the previous month's revised figure of 1.371M.
