Here are a few simple things you can do around the house that could help when the next storm hits:
- Take photos of your home and belongings for your records.
- Know where your policy documents are and how to reach your agent.

One of the best things about this state: you're never too far from something beautiful.

Texas is home to some of the prettiest rose gardens in the country, including the largest public one in the U.S., in Tyler.

The phone call I get most often starts with "I've just been in an accident, what do I do?" And that's what I'm here for.

But it helps to know the steps before you ever need them:
1. Check for injuries first. Everything else can wait.
2. If it's safe, move out of traffic and turn on your hazards.
3. Call 911. Even for a minor accident.
4. Take photos of everything: damage, plates, the road around you.
5. Exchange info with the other driver. Stick to facts, skip the fault talk.
6. Call your agent. We'll walk through the next steps together.
7. Keep an eye on how you feel over the next few days. Adrenaline hides a lot.

This state taught us a few things without ever sitting us down for a lesson.

Simple things like waving at strangers, holding the door, saying yes ma’am and no sir, and checking on your neighbors.

Nobody handed us a manual. We just watched the people who raised us, and now our kids are watching us.

Wherever you go, people can tell. Raised right, raised Texan.
