These principles are important!

With the announcement of a corporate grocery store building in Whitewater (🤞🤞🤞), it's a great time to refresh ourselves about what makes cooperatives different and why they offer something unlike what corporate grocers can. Whitewater residents deserve varying food choices that cover all of our needs and we are thrilled to be a part of that solution.

Whitewater Grocery Co., and most other grocery cooperatives, operate under what we call the "Cooperative Principles." These principles serve as guidelines to provide a democratic structure for co-ops around the world. When we make decisions, these seven principles are considered and discussed to make sure the decisions made on the cooperatives behalf are being made in favor of all Owners and in the future... all shoppers!

Cooperative Principle #4: Autonomy and Independence!

Cooperatives are autonomous, self-help organizations controlled by their members. If they enter into agreements with other organizations, including governments, or raise capital from external sources, they do so on terms that ensure democratic control by their members and maintain their cooperative autonomy.

What a great idea....

Whitewater Grocery Co. is partnering with local businesses and community organizations this holiday season to bring new or gently used books and blankets to local children- ages ranging from toddler to teenager.
Items will be collected, organized, and then put out for children to shop through at Whitewater's Community Engagement Center.

So look through those storage boxes in your basement and drop off any gently used books or blankets that you haven't used in a while! Newly purchased items welcomed along with cash or checks if you'd like us to do the shopping for you.

Drop items off at Binning & Dickens Insurance, 319 W Center St, during business hours. M-F 8am-5pm.
If you'd like to volunteer at the CEC for shopping hours or set up, please email Jenna at [email protected] for the sign up link. Volunteer hours work in morning and afternoon shifts on December 15th & 17th.

UWW MARCHING BAND continues to Rock Perkins stadium and beyond. Congrats Glenn Hayes & UWW.

New Warhawk Marching Band uniforms take wing

For the first time in 13 years, the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater Warhawk Marching Band soared into Perkins Stadium on September 10 with new uniforms, thanks to Glenn Hayes, professor of music, and uniform designer and alumnus Michael Cesario. The new uniforms, which feature a design that evokes the wings of a hawk, is the latest the two have collaborated on over the years.

Since 1987, Hayes has served as the director of the UW-Whitewater Marching Band. During his tenure, hundreds of performances have energized not only Perkins Stadium but also famed Lambeau Field and stadiums hosting the NCAA Division III National Championship football games.

“There have been so many shows. Packers games, Brewers Opening Days, hosting State Show, Homecomings,” said Hayes. “At many of these events we are able to connect with alums, share memories and hear how proud they are of what the band is doing now. Each year when new students are brought into the marching band family, I get the opportunity to see a special connection that only band members can know. The instant welcome and support for new members holds a special place in my heart.”
