We got a call from a long time good customer reporting they got a call telling them they won the Readers Digest Sweepstakes and all they had to do was meet them at the bank! DO NOT FALL FOR SCAMS like this and do not meet them anywhere, not even the bank. The scam is described below, so educate yourselves and please share with your elderly friends and neighbors! Stay Paranoid My Friends!

The "Meet me at the bank" or sweepstakes prize scam involves fraudsters calling or writing to victims claiming they have won a massive cash prize or luxury car from Reader's Digest or Publishers Clearing House. The criminal then instructs the target to go to their local bank to withdraw money, wire funds, or cash a fake check to pay upfront "taxes," "registration fees," or "processing costs" before the prize can be delivered. How the Scam WorksThe False Promise: You receive an unexpected call, email, or letter stating you won millions of dollars or a new car.The Bank Directive: The scammer tells you to go to your bank—sometimes even claiming they will meet you there or stay on the phone the entire time—to handle the transfer of funds or deposit a bogus cashier's check. The Fee Trap: They claim you must pay local taxes, custom fees, or legal document costs out of pocket before the physical payout can occur.Warning Signs to RecognizeUpfront Payments: Real sweepstakes never require you to pay money, buy gift cards, or cover taxes to claim a legitimate prize.Caller ID Spoofing: Scammers easily manipulate caller ID displays to read "Reader's Digest".Secrecy Commands: Fraudsters often order you not to talk to family members or bank tellers about the "win".
