Happy New Year! Welcome to the first Piedmont Perspective of the year! With some forecasts predicting highs in the teens after a relatively warm start to the season, why not curl up with a warm beverage and enjoy the offerings the Piedmont Capital team has for you.
To kick off the year, Tom muses on the difference between forecasting and planning; Drew provides insight into the market’s volatile start to the year; Alex takes us back to eternal September; Erika has thoughts on intention, and we welcome Diego Biggerstaff to our staff as an intern.

The world has felt heavy of late but in just a few days Autumn makes her colorful entrance and I, for one, can’t wait for my favorite season to make her presence official! I’ve yet to don mittens for my morning dog walks and the warm golden evenings “just make me feel that special September way…”

I encourage you to get out there and breathe deeply. Relish these golden days and stay grounded in what is good and true.

Some of you have driven past our office and wondered if “we are open?” Though it may not look like it on the exterior, we most definitely are! The interior remodel is complete, and we welcome you to stop by, say hi and check out our “new digs.” The finish work on the exterior – of which there is a lot remaining to do - has met with a few hiccups. We will get to the finish line – hopefully before the snow flies! We thank you for your patience and perseverance through the banging, dust, and odd parking arrangements.
Keep in mind, none of that has any influence on your investments with us! Read on in this month’s edition of the Piedmont Perspective where Tom discusses proper benchmarks; Drew analyzes the impact the Fed’s policy decisions, tariffs, and politics have on the markets and our portfolio strategies; Alex looks at how online gaming-industry policies may have broader impacts than you may think; and Erika has an international adventure.

Summertime is upon us, have you noticed? I’ve had a bird’s eye view of three seasons from my home office this past winter, spring and now almost summer. Something I have never had before – not even during COVID! The cold winter winds that seeped under my patio door frame as I opened accounts or answered your calls seem like a distant memory as the heat of June sets in. Working from home has its plusses – I enjoy it very much and so does my dog, Ember - but so does the office – namely the team I get to work with every day. The next time I write this mid-month missive – we'll all be back together in our new office and summer will be on the wind down.

In this month’s edition of the Piedmont Perspective, Tom looks at the fundamental divide in how different groups view the same financial landscape; Drew sorts out the market’s short-term volatility juxtaposed with it's fundamental resilience; Alex continues his series on tariffs bringing us to and through WWII; and Erika has praise for ordinary days.

We are still in the remodel process – you’ll find more information on that inside.

"Show me that river, take me across, wash all my troubles away. Whilst that lucky old sun's got nothing to do, but roll around heaven all day." – That Lucky Old Sun by Brian Wilson

Happy Summer!

It’s almost Memorial Day weekend and as much as I enjoy gardening, I already feel like I am weeks behind the game. I haven’t bought or planted a single sprig of spring. My focus has been on keeping my current landscaping alive amid a very busy schedule and stormy weekends. I’ve turned the lawn mowing over to a professional – realizing that my time (in my case 4-5 hours every weekend) is more valuable than money.

This reminds me of why you come to us at Piedmont Capital. Not that your time is more valuable than your money – but because we spend our time managing your valuable investments so you don’t have too! Especially when the market gets stormy and economic headlines are filled with constant breaking news.

When you turn to us and plant the investment seed, we tend to your financial crops with plans for a bountiful harvest in the future in mind, and together, we watch your financial plantings grow, revising when necessary so they weather the storms as best possible. We value your trust. Thank you!

In this month’s edition of the Piedmont Perspective: Tom discusses our Momentum Investment strategy amid the whipsawing economic climate; Drew further dissects how our momentum strategy has performed for your portfolio; Alex continues his saga on tariffs; and I find wonder in winterkill.

We are still in the remodel process – you’ll find more information on that inside.

"Another May new buds and flowers shall bring: Ah! why has happiness no second Spring?" – Charlotte Smith

Wishing you a safe and reflective Memorial Day.
