Financial exploitation occurs when someone improperly takes, misuses, or controls an older adult's money or assets without their full knowledge or consent. Unfortunately, it can come not only from scammers but also from someone the victim knows and trusts.
Know the warning signs:
- Unexplained withdrawals or transfers
- Sudden changes to accounts, beneficiaries, or financial documents
- A new person taking unusual interest in an older adult's finances
By staying informed and watching for red flags, you can help safeguard the financial well-being of your older loved ones.
