Did you know the very 1st Labor Day was celebrated on Tuesday, Sept. 5th, 1882 in New York City? It wasn't until 1894 when President Grover Cleveland signed a law making the first Monday of September an annual holiday, that Labor Day came to be as we know it today.
Here are a few fun facts about Labor Day that I bet you didn't know!

🛠 Labor day became a federal holiday nearly 20 years before the creation of the labor department.

🛠The Labor Department was the first cabinet agency led by a woman, Francis Perkins.

🛠Early 20th century; labor activists and Secretary Francis Perkins championed the Fair Labor Standards act in 1938 which included the 40-hour workweek and minimum wage.

🛠 The first Labor Day celebration, held in New York City, was attended by nearly 25,000 union members and their families.
