🚨 Fraud Alert 🚨
Attention Members
There has been a recent uptick in fraudulent activity throughout the nation spanning multiple industries. Typically, these activities come in waves as we have seen a surge in washed checks, debit card fraud, romance scams and most recently, spoof calls. While technology is great on so many fronts, it also provides fraudsters increasingly sophisticated means to impersonate companies using their actual phone numbers and create a panic that causes members to unwittingly help them defraud the innocent.
We want to provide our wonderful members with some tools to help prevent fraud losses from spoof calls:
1. Don’t answer phone calls or texts you were not expecting. – Let calls from unknown or local-looking numbers go to voicemail.
2. Only contact Inner Lakes and other institutions using a trusted or touchpoint. - If a caller claims to be from Inner Lakes FCU or a government agency, hang up immediately and call the number listed on your statement or our website.
3. Be suspicious if there is a sense of urgency – Hang up immediately if a caller pressures you or asks for personal or financial details.
4. Don’t provide callers with sensitive information. – If an Inner Lakes FCU team member calls you, they will most likely not ask for information we already have on system.
5. Don’t respond when there are requests to press buttons or reply to automated messages. - Pressing numbers or answering voice requests will confirm your line is active and will lead to more calls.
6. Silence unknown callers on your phones – Most phones have the ability to silence calls from unknown contacts.
