APRIL IS NATIONAL VOLUNTEER MONTH. HIGHLIGHTING PFN EMPLOYEES GIVING BACK TO THEIR COMMUNITY:

PFN employee Jacque Bourke spends her Thursday morning volunteering at Holy Trinity’s food pantry. This involves helping to restock the shelves and packing up bags of groceries for clients of Union County based social service agencies. The bags include frozen meat, eggs, produce and canned food and dry goods. Holy Trinity provides an average of 120 bags of groceries a week. The pantry relies heavily on nonperishable and canned food drives sponsored by the Boy Scouts, Westfield post office, Temple Emanu-El’s Yom Kippur, local swim teams, and other organizations. Perishable food is donated by companies like Target, Walmart, ShopRite and other local franchises. In the summer, they also receive donated produce from the Methodist Church in Westfield’s garden. Many youth service projects donate much needed personal care items as well. Food insecurity continues to be an issue, especially with the recent changes in the SNAP program, even in wealthier areas like Union County. The Holy Trinity community-based food pantry can use your support. If you have a scouting troop, an athletic team or any other organized youth program, please consider running a canned food drive between May and August when they are the most depleted. We were privileged to help our client Byron celebrate his 100th birthday last weekend! An amazing milestone for an amazing man! Byron joined the Dupont Manhattan project in his early 20’s and helped build the first nuclear weapon that helped end Word War II. He went on to have a successful career working as a chemist for Merck - working into his early 80’s. We are so lucky to be able to work with such an interesting person! All of our clients have such interesting stories. We love this about our job!
