SCAM ALERT! Fraudsters can use Artificial Intelligence to copy the voices of loved ones, who call pretending to need money to be wired for an emergency situation. You may get a call from a loved one who states they were arrested and need bail money… or you may get a call that your loved one is in a foreign country, and the hospital requires funds before they’ll do emergency surgery… or you may get a call from a lawyer who says to wire funds now so your loved one can get help.

PROTECT YOURSELF: AI generated voices sound very convincing, as scammers often use audio from videos your loved one has posted online. ANY TIME someone needs EMERGENCY FUNDS, hang up, and call them back at a number you know is legitimate, or call someone else who knows them, and would know if they were in an emergency situation. Also be wary about posting videos containing your voice on social media, as scammers can easily replicate your voice.

SCAM ALERT! . Be wary of renting a home or vacation rental from anyone who pressures you to send a wire transfer or digital payment through apps like Zelle®. You can’t recover funds using these methods of payment after they are sent. Scammers can even replicate legitimate listings to try to steal your money.

PROTECT YOURSELF: Wire transfers and digital payments like Zelle® are only meant to be used for those you know and trust. Only make deposits and payments through legitimate property rental websites that offer fraud guarantees for paying through their sites. Pay with credit or debit cards, when possible, as they offer additional protection features.
