The Petersburg Volunteer Fire and Rescue is reminding everyone it is that time of year again where we deal with blind intersections on rural roads due to tall crops. Please remember to travel slowly and stop at all intersections! Everyone is busy, but taking 30 seconds to stop at an intersection can save a life of a friend, neighbor, family member, a stranger, or YOURS!

Here are a few tasks to include on your spring checklist to safeguard your home:

- Examine gutters and downspouts for any signs of damage or clogs.
- Trim back trees and shrubs that encroach upon your home.
- Evaluate the caulking around doors and windows to ensure it's sealed.
- Confirm that the sump pump is operational and ready for any spring rains.
- Check for any signs of dampness or leaks in the basement and crawl space.
- Inspect the water hoses of your washing machine for cracks and clear any lint buildup from the dryer vent.
- Test your carbon monoxide and smoke detectors to ensure they're functioning properly.
- Survey the roof for any potential damage or areas in need of repair.
- Remember to replace your HVAC filters for optimal performance.
