Four months ago, 𝗘𝗱𝗴𝗮𝗿 𝗙𝗲𝗿𝗿𝗲𝗶𝗿𝗮, President of 𝗔𝗠𝗚 𝗠𝗶𝗹𝗹𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸, attended his very first networking event.

Like many business owners, he was focused on serving clients, managing projects, and growing his company. Networking wasn't something he had prioritized. But one event led to an introduction, and that introduction led to another.

Through a connection with Space Connect member 𝗠𝗮𝗿𝗶𝘁𝘇𝗮 𝗟𝗼𝗽𝗲𝘇 from Interactive Community Alliance, Edgar was introduced to Space Connect, where he began building relationships that would help shape the next chapter of his business.

By consistently showing up, attending events, and engaging with the community, Edgar expanded his network, gained valuable insight into certifications and local resources, and connected with leaders across Palm Beach County.

One of those meaningful reconnections was with Carmen Carbone Leadership Development & Recruiting, whose guidance, support, and willingness to make introductions helped Edgar expand his network and create new opportunities for AMG Millwork. Through that relationship, Edgar was introduced to 𝗛𝗮𝘁𝗰𝗵𝗲𝗿 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝘀𝘁𝗿𝘂𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 & 𝗗𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗹𝗼𝗽𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁, leading to one of the company's first major opportunities.

Later, through a The Space Connect Work Lounge event featuring Verdex Construction, Edgar built another connection that resulted in an additional project opportunity for AMG Millwork.

Our 𝗙𝗶𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗶𝗱𝗲 𝗖𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗺𝗶𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗲𝗿 𝗦𝗵𝗮𝗹𝗼𝗻𝗱𝗮 𝗪𝗮𝗿𝗿𝗲𝗻 sparked the kind of meaningful dialogue that makes these gatherings so valuable.

We were especially encouraged by the participation of our members. 𝗠𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝗾𝘂𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀, 𝗺𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝗲𝗻𝗴𝗮𝗴𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗺𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝗵𝗼𝗻𝗲𝘀𝘁 𝗱𝗶𝘀𝗰𝘂𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 𝗮𝗯𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗹 𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗻𝗴𝗲𝘀 business owners face when pursuing certifications, government opportunities, and contracts.

One message stood out throughout the evening: 𝘀𝘂𝗰𝗰𝗲𝘀𝘀 is not only about providing a great service. It’s also about 𝘀𝗵𝗼𝘄𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘂𝗽, 𝗯𝘂𝗶𝗹𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗿𝗲𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗽𝘀, 𝘂𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗿𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗻𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗰𝗲𝘀𝘀, and 𝗸𝗻𝗼𝗰𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗼𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗿𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁 𝗱𝗼𝗼𝗿𝘀. Opportunities rarely come looking for us, we have to pursue them.

We are grateful to 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗺𝗶𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗲𝗿 𝗪𝗮𝗿𝗿𝗲𝗻 for her openness, transparency, and commitment to supporting small businesses. She reinforced an important idea: when local businesses grow, they create jobs, strengthen families, and contribute directly to the development of our community.

The event featured 𝗖𝗵𝗮𝗿𝗹𝗼𝘁𝘁𝗲 𝗪𝗿𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁 from the City of West Palm Beach, with keynote speakers 𝗟𝗶𝘀𝗮 𝗞𝗶𝗻𝗴 and 𝗖𝗼𝗹𝗶𝗻 𝗦𝘁𝗲𝗽𝗵𝗲𝗻𝘀 from , leading an honest discussion on “𝗗𝗼 𝗧𝗵𝗶𝘀, 𝗡𝗼𝘁 𝗧𝗵𝗮𝘁: 𝗔𝘃𝗼𝗶𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗦𝗺𝗮𝗹𝗹 𝗕𝘂𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝗣𝗶𝘁𝗳𝗮𝗹𝗹𝘀.”

What stood out most was that Verdex did not come into the room simply looking to check boxes or fulfill outreach requirements. 𝗧𝗵𝗲𝘆 𝗰𝗮𝗺𝗲 𝗹𝗼𝗼𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗹 𝗹𝗼𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝗽𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗻𝗲𝗿𝘀. The conversation was practical, transparent, and focused on helping SBEs better understand how to position themselves, navigate the process, and become part of real opportunities within Verdex’s construction ecosystem.

Even more importantly, the follow-up started immediately. The very next day, 𝗩𝗲𝗿𝗱𝗲𝘅 𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗰𝗵𝗲𝗱 𝗯𝗮𝗰𝗸 𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝘁𝗼 𝘀𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗿𝗮𝗹 𝗹𝗼𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘀𝘁𝗿𝘂𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗽𝗮𝗻𝗶𝗲𝘀 𝗿𝗲𝗴𝗮𝗿𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗼𝗽𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁𝘂𝗻𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗲𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗻𝗲𝘅𝘁 𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗽𝘀.

Yesterday’s 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗖𝗼𝘂𝗻𝘁𝘆 𝗟𝗲𝗮𝗱𝗲𝗿𝘀 was a reminder of why Space Connect continues creating these spaces.

We opened the evening by sharing a video with 𝗠𝗮𝘆𝗼𝗿 𝗦𝗮𝗿𝗮 𝗕𝗮𝘅𝘁𝗲𝗿 and 𝗔𝗱𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗼𝗿 𝗝𝗼𝘀𝗲𝗽𝗵 𝗔𝗯𝗿𝘂𝘇𝘇𝗼 featuring many of the certified and certification-pending businesses in our community, business owners working hard every day to grow, compete, and be truly included in local opportunities.

Our CEO, 𝗘𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗲𝗹𝗹𝗮 𝗣𝗮𝗿𝗮𝗱𝗮, spoke about the importance of creating real connections between small businesses and county leadership, helping close a gap that for many years has made access feel out of reach for many entrepreneurs.

Mayor Baxter shared the personal calling that led her into public service and her desire to help make processes easier and more accessible for business owners, instead of becoming another obstacle.

One of the most valuable parts of the conversation was the openness around the realities of the certification process. Important questions were asked, honest answers were given, and Administrator Abruzzo showed genuine willingness to continue conversations around specific cases and concerns brought forward by attendees.

And that’s exactly why 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝘀𝗲 𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀 𝗺𝗮𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗿.

This is more than networking. 𝗜𝘁’𝘀 𝗮𝗰𝗰𝗲𝘀𝘀. It’s the opportunity for business owners to be in the room, ask questions directly, build relationships, and be part of conversations that can help open doors to real opportunities and county projects.
