COUNTY ALERT
Today, I contacted the Arkansas Department of Emergency Management to notify them that I am declaring a State of Emergency for all of Crittenden County. This declaration is effective immediately and will remain in effect until the storm has passed and conditions have improved.
As this winter storm approaches, conditions are expected to rapidly deteriorate on all city streets, county and state roads, and bridges throughout the county. Snow and sleet accumulations could reach 5 inches or more, depending on location. Icing is also possible and may result in widespread power outages. High winds and extremely low temperatures are expected as the storm moves into our area.
Declaring a State of Emergency allows the county to receive assistance from the State if needed.
Please take time now to prepare before the storm begins later this evening. If you must travel, be mindful of road crews and give them ample space as they work to clear main routes across the county. I ask you to continue monitoring the weather through local tv stations or apps you may have on your electronic devices.
Please keep our healthcare workers, law enforcement officers, utility workers, first responders, and road crews in your prayers as they work to keep our community safe.
If you do not have to be out, please stay home.
