I just read an article in a magazine called Deseret. The May edition. The article is titled detour from democracy. As I read this, I was surprised at what I was reading. There is a part of the constitution that calls for a “Contingent Election”. I have never heard of this before. As I read this I was taken back by hat it was saying. Here is an example of what I read.
In our election for president today. We Have two main players. Former President Trump and President Biden. But we also have others running that are or could get enough electoral votes so those will not get to the required 270 votes to win. So if that happens, ( and it has happed in the past.) Then the election will end up in the United States House. So those in the house will vote for the President. However, it would not be those sitting in the current House as their term has expired. So the new members of the House would be voting for the President. But If we don’t get a strong majority in one party or the other and they don’t come to a decision, then it goes to the Senate. The Senate would need to get 60 votes to elect a President. Unless they use the nuclear option. At that point they only need 50 plus 1 votes. So if the Senate is equal in democrats vs republicans. And they cast a say 50 to 50 vote. Then as President of the Senate Kamala Harris casts the deciding vote and could vote for herself to be President
Also some were along the way a third party candidate could influence the process and get enough votes to be President. Someone like Robert Kennedy, or someone from the no label party. If that happens, and it could, then just watch what happens to the voices that are the talking heads. Wait, that still makes my head spin.
