Most people spend more time planning their finances than figuring out what they’re actually financing.
Then one day they look up and wonder how they got somewhere they never chose.
I sat down recently and did a simple exercise.
Write five sentences you’d want read at your 80th birthday.
Not accomplishments. Not account balances. Five sentences that would tell you that you lived the right way.
Mine weren’t about the business or what I built.
They were about Aleksandra.
That she’s pursuing the things that bring out the most creative expression in herself,
That she could do the same for her own children one day,
And that I didn’t leave anything on the table.
That was the whole list.
And when I wrote it down, something became very clear.
The life I’m building right now either points toward that moment or it doesn’t.
Every decision I make today is either building toward those five sentences or drifting away from them.
The money is supposed to serve life, not replace it.
Write your five sentences.
Then ask yourself honestly if the way you’re living right now is pointed in that direction.
If you want help figuring out what you’re building toward, I’m always happy to be a sounding board.
