We've backed our promises made to members since 1883.

Modern Woodmen paid its first death claim to Henrietta Mayer of Iowa in 1884. It totaled $698.58.

Since then, we've continued to help families feel secure through life insurance. In 2023, payments and benefits to members totaled $1.65 billion. This includes death benefits, annuity payments and surrender benefits.

Did you know? Over the years Modern Woodmen has helped communities across the country heal.

In 1909, we opened a tuberculosis sanatorium in Colorado, that served more than 12,000 members afflicted with the illness. During the polio epidemic in the 1940s and 50s, we created a polio benefit to help member families affected with the disease.
