What's Up Wednesday - Allegany Hope
An expanded Memorial Day Weekend Celebration will start Friday and continue through next Monday in Belmont, serving as the kickoff to the village’s 250th Celebration in observance of the signing of the country’s Declaration of Independence.
Belmont American Legion Post 808 will host the activities in honor of local veterans and active service members, with Friday’s kickoff, from 3PM to 10PM at the organization’s facility at 29 Schuyler Street (State Route 19), featuring gatherings, reunions and music.
Saturday, May 23, will feature a Vendors and Artisans Market from 10AM to 2PM, Mandy Hintz and Hintz of Thunder musical group from 2PM to 7PM, and a fireworks display at 7PM.
Sunday will feature open co****le and horseshoes competitions, followed by Memorial Day ceremonies the following day.
On Monday, five wreath placements will occur at different cemeteries and memorial sites in the morning, followed by an 11:30AM parade on the village’s main street from the Belmont Fire Department to Park Circle for annual Memorial Day ceremonies.
Residents and businesses are being encouraged to decorate homes, storefronts, and properties in red, white, and blue, beginning Memorial Day weekend and continuing through July 4.
The American Legion, Belmont Rotary Club , and the Village of Belmont, NY will be joining together for the 250th Celebration, with volunteers requested to contact Shannon Harding at [email protected] or (716) 909-2601.
