Insurance terms can get confusing fast, and this is one of the biggest ones people hear after a loss.

⬛ Actual Cash Value means what an item is worth today after age, wear, and depreciation are factored in.
⬛ Replacement Cost means what it would cost to replace that item with a new one of like kind and quality, subject to the terms of the policy.

Coverage always depends on the policy, but understanding the terminology is a good place to start — and knowing how it applies to your specific loss is where having an experienced public adjuster can make a difference.

Proud to see a beloved member of the SMW family and true industry giant, Bruce Swerling, recently honored in National Association of Public Insurance Adjusters (NAPIA)'s Past President spotlight series.

Bruce carried forward the legacy of the firm his grandfather, Solomon Swerling, founded in 1898, while building a remarkable legacy of his own through decades of leadership, advocacy, and service to policyholders.

Today, that legacy continues through his daughters, Dayle Swerling Burke and Diane Swerling, and remains deeply woven into who we are at SMW.

When a major fire threatened the future of Newbury Street favorite Trident Booksellers & Cafe Courtney and her team had a lot more to deal with than just the physical damage.
