Today there is a partial lunar lclipse in the Midwest
A deep partial lunar eclipse will be visible across the Midwest on
Thursday, August 27, 2026, with maximum coverage on the night of August 27–28.

Key details for the Midwest :
Type: Partial lunar eclipse (about 96.3% of the Moon’s disk in Earth’s umbra at maximum)
Begins: 8:24 p.m. CDT
Partial phase starts: 9:34 p.m. CDT — Moon enters the darker umbra, turning red in the shadowed portion
Maximum eclipse: 11:13 p.m. CDT — 96.3% of the Moon’s surface in umbra; a thin bright crescent remains outside the shadow
Partial phase ends: 12:52 a.m. CDT (next day)

What to expect visually
At maximum, most of the Moon will appear dark red or coppery due to sunlight filtered through Earth’s atmosphere, while the bright edge outside the umbra will remain white. This creates a striking contrast, though it will not be a total eclipse
