Meet your Local Agent, Dave Trout! Yep the same Trout of Trout Insurance, he’s the man behind the curtain… and an expert in many things! ESPECIALLY as related to the Grateful Dead, Ben & Jerry’s, and working as a chef (from a previous life!) And of course- insurance. A Weaverville resident for over 30 years he loves mountain life, yet still appreciates a great beach- having grown up in Tampa Bay, Florida. These days he and his wife Jan love to head over to Charleston when they have a long weekend and find the best shrimp po’boys. Wanna find the best rate or discuss the best way to cook shrimp? What do our long-time locals remember about past-versions of Weaverville?! In the 1990’s school shopping was done at Rose’s (where Publix is now) and the land where Wal-Mart stands used to be a meadow. What are some of your favorite memories of past versions of our town?!

Trout Insurance has been serving the community since we opened in 1999… who else can remember the BLIZZARD of 99’?! A most memorable year!!

Of course this first photo is well before even our time! Pictured first is the Weaverville Drug Company on Main Street in 1905. How many of you have since gotten an eclair inside these old bricks?! Currently it stands across the street from our office as Well Bred Bakery!

Weaverville Drug was at this location on Main Street for over 70 years, until they moved across the street (in what was the old post office building) in 2001. You can still see two of the wooden pharmacy cabinets from the old drug store on at the Weaverville Dry Ridge Historical Museum (check them out if you go to the on a Wednesday!)

Meet your local agent! Idelle Davids is not only a home & auto expert, she has range- her travels from the past few years include Peru, Slovenia, and most recently- Poland!
Usually the first face you’ll see when you come by our Main Street office, she’s happy to chat! Other interests include reality tv, the Avett brothers and spending time at the arboretum. After work? She’s often see walking her dog Sammy at Lake Louise, a cute chihuahua mix. Say hi if you’re crossing paths or stop by the office!

Dave & Jan Trout attended last Monday’s rally on May 18th for Jamie Ager & Pete Buttigieg at Hickory Nut Gap farm in Fairview, NC. Insurance premiums continue to rise and 2026 has been exceptionally high with the loss of subsidies.

Below is an interview from the Citizen Times with Dave at the event:
“I had neighbors with chainsaws clearing my driveway that I had never met before,” Dave Trout, who described himself as an “old-beatnik who’s now a Kennedy-style Democrat.” As the owner of an insurance services firm, he is reminded everyday of the rising costs of Medicare and Medicaid and the impact of cuts through President Donald Trump’s “One Big Beautiful Bill” and the long-term impacts of Helene. “It affects not only me personally, but everyone I’m responsible for,” Trout said.

Coffee? It’s drip during the week with cream & sugar before he takes his 7yr old son Luca to school. The weekends are saved for french press.
Favorite meal to get after a long day? That’ll be pizza and beer from
Quick break? He loves a quick stroll through the Nature Park in the center of town (and just a skip from the Trout Insurance office)!
How about the weekends? Hanson enjoys concerts with his wife Lorna (when they can get away) and Bearwallow Mountain is a favorite hiking spot with his family.
Favorite thing about Weaverville? The setting and vibe of the town. It’s a small mountain town that’s also growing at the same time- it feels good to be part of a place that’s emerging.
