Dave & Jan Trout attended last Monday’s rally on May 18th for Jamie Ager & Pete Buttigieg at Hickory Nut Gap farm in Fairview, NC. Insurance premiums continue to rise and 2026 has been exceptionally high with the loss of subsidies.
Below is an interview from the Citizen Times with Dave at the event:
“I had neighbors with chainsaws clearing my driveway that I had never met before,” Dave Trout, who described himself as an “old-beatnik who’s now a Kennedy-style Democrat.” As the owner of an insurance services firm, he is reminded everyday of the rising costs of Medicare and Medicaid and the impact of cuts through President Donald Trump’s “One Big Beautiful Bill” and the long-term impacts of Helene. “It affects not only me personally, but everyone I’m responsible for,” Trout said.
