🔒 He escaped.
He got caught again.
He still refused to break.
In the fall of 1862, fourteen captured Andrews Raiders broke out of a Confederate prison and ran for Union lines.
Eight made it.
Six were recaptured.
Jacob Parrott was one of the six.
He went back into Confederate custody after already enduring brutal punishment, watching fellow raiders executed, and spending months in enemy hands.
Nearly a year after volunteering for the mission, a prisoner exchange finally returned him to Union lines in March 1863.
What happened next, when he walked into the office of the Secretary of War, is the chapter most people never hear.
Endurance is not glamorous. It is the decision to keep going after the plan collapses.
