Isolated showers and storms are possible in North Texas today! This is thanks to tropical storm Edouard, which is bringing some lift and extra humidity to spark storms. Further northwest (mainly west of I-35 and north of I-20), the air will still be rather dry and lift weak, stunting much rainfall potential.

Rain?! πŸ§πŸ‘€πŸŒ§οΈβ˜”οΈ

Oh?

Most Invest 97L model guidance is trending towards this tropical disturbance to head straight for DFW!

What does this mean?

Well, this disturbance, currently off the coast of Louisiana, has a high likelihood of becoming our next tropical storm, named Edouard. I’m not expecting anything problematic with this, likely just a very low end tropical storm as it approaches Houston. A lot of models have the system steering towards North Texas as it weakens.

As of right now, it is impossible to say how much, if any, rainfall this would bring us, but any would certainly be welcomed with the horrible wildfire conditions lately.

I will continue to fine tune this forecast as we get closer!

πŸ”₯🚨 **NORTH TEXAS WILDFIRES β€” PLEASE STAY ALERT** 🚨

Our thoughts are with everyone impacted by the devastating wildfires burning across Palo Pinto, Jack, and Parker Counties.

The Ross Fire in Palo Pinto and Jack Counties has exploded to approximately 80,000 acres, with crews working around the clock to battle the flames. Evacuations, road closures, and damage to homes and other structures have been reported as firefighters fight extremely hot, dry, and windy conditions.

πŸ™ A huge thank-you to the firefighters, first responders, emergency management teams, law enforcement, volunteers, and everyone working to protect lives and property.

If you live in or around an affected area:

⚠️ Pay attention to evacuation orders
πŸš— Avoid closed roads and fire-affected areas
πŸ“± Keep emergency alerts turned on
πŸ„ Make arrangements for livestock and pets if needed
πŸ’§ Stay prepared and have an evacuation plan
πŸ”₯ DO NOT do anything that could create a spark

For those who have been forced from their homes or have suffered damage, you are not alone. North Texas communities are coming together to help neighbors, families, animals, and first responders through this difficult situation.

❀️ Please keep Palo Pinto, Jack, Parker, and the surrounding communities in your thoughts β€” and share this post to help spread awareness.

The weather pattern looks pretty consistent over the next couple of weeks!

Monitoring closely for storm development! We have deepening cumulus right now over Denton County and another field over the metroplex. These may support pop-up storms, with lightning, heavy rain, and perhaps some gusty winds in the next few hours. Very low coverage.

We have two big weather stories: the heat and hot temperatures with the possibility of breaking, if not tying, records, but also Tropical Storm Bertha in the northern Gulf.
