What Is IRMAA?

Did you know your Medicare premiums might be higher than your neighbor's — even if you have the same plan? 🤔

It's called IRMAA (Income-Related Monthly Adjustment Amount), and it means Medicare charges higher-income beneficiaries more for Part B and Part D coverage.

Here's how it works: Medicare looks at your tax return from 2 years ago to determine if you owe a surcharge on top of your standard premium.

For 2025, if your income was over $106,000 (individual) or $212,000 (married filing jointly), IRMAA likely applies to you.

The good news? There are ways to plan around it — and if your income has recently dropped, you may be able to appeal.
