Mortgage rates could finally fall below 6% by 2026.
Fannie Mae's latest forecast shows 30-year fixed mortgage rates averaging 6.4% by the end of 2025 and 5.9% by late 2026, which would mark the first time rates drop below 6% since 2022.
Experts say the decline will likely be gradual, as rates remain tied to inflation trends and Federal Reserve policy decisions. Even so, a dip below 6% could help improve affordability and encourage more buyers to return to the market.
For buyers, lower rates can open new opportunities. For sellers, increased demand may help listings move faster and at stronger prices.
