It is families, kids, livestock, projects, food stands, local businesses, volunteers, and a lot of behind-the-scenes work.

Before hiring anyone to repair storm damage, ask a few important questions:

Are you licensed where required?
Do you carry liability insurance?
Do you carry workers compensation if you have employees?
Can you provide proof of insurance?
Will you provide a written estimate?
Are you asking for full payment up front?

If someone gets hurt on your property or causes additional damage, insurance and liability can get complicated quickly.

Slow down, ask questions, and do not let pressure make the decision for you.

Your vehicle can be just as exposed to storm damage as your home.

Hail, falling branches, flying debris, and flooding can all cause vehicle damage. Whether that damage is covered depends on the coverage you carry.

Comprehensive coverage is the part of an auto policy that typically responds to many non-collision events, including hail or falling objects.
If you only carry liability coverage, storm damage to your own vehicle may not be covered.

Storm preparedness is a family conversation. Kids do better when they know the plan before bad weather arrives.

Talk through where your family goes during a warning, what pets need to be brought inside, who grabs the emergency kit, and where flashlights are kept.

It does not have to be scary. It just needs to be clear. Preparedness is one more way we take care of the people depending on us.

Extra batteries
Portable phone charger
Weather radio
Bottled water
Basic first aid supplies
Important medications
Copies of key documents
Pet supplies
Work gloves
Cash
Emergency contact list

Before storm season gets busy, take 10 minutes to walk around your home, garage, outbuildings, vehicles, and larger personal property. Take clear photos and short videos of what everything looks like today.

If storm damage happens later, those photos can help make the claims process smoother and more accurate.

A few areas to document:
Roof and siding
Windows and doors
Decks, sheds, garages, and outbuildings
Vehicles, trailers, boats, ATVs, and equipment
Finished basement areas and larger personal property

Being prepared before the storm is always easier than trying to recreate details afterward.
