Did you lose food due to a power outage or mechanical failure?

Depending on which home or renters policy you have, you may have up to $1,000, $500, or $250 in coverage for spoiled refrigerated or frozen food.

✔️ Keep a detailed list of the items you had to throw away.
✔️ Share the list with us when filing a claim.
✔️ Your policy deductible applies.

❓ Are refrigerated medications covered?

No. Medications, such as diabetes medication, are not covered under food spoilage claims.

Trees & Homeowners Insurance: who pays? 🌳🏡
Neighbor’s branches hanging over your roof? Here’s the general way this often works (rules vary by state and policy):

Overhanging branches
In many areas, you may be allowed to trim branches back to the property line—but local rules (and avoiding damage to the tree) matter.
If a tree falls and damages your home
Often, the homeowner’s policy covering the damaged home responds if the loss was caused by a covered peril (like wind).
The “unless…” (possible negligence)
If a tree was clearly dead/dangerous and the owner ignored it after notice, their liability coverage may come into play—but it depends on facts and documentation.
Don’t forget cleanup limits
Tree/debris removal coverage can have sub-limits, so it’s worth checking your policy.


If you’re not sure how your policy would apply, talk with your agent before trimming or removing anything.
