Midland Insurance Agency has a long tradition in Wausa, Nebraska and the surrounding area. Our roots trace back to two agencies that started in Wausa in 1925 and 1943. The agency began to support the Independent Insurance Agents of Nebraska in 1948, through the Nyquist Insurance Agency. One had its beginning in 1925 as the Nyquist Insurance Agency, started by Alfred Nyquist. Nyquist had a number o

f lines of coverage available for their personal, farm and commercial customers through a number of property and casualty carriers plus hail insurance. Pfeil purchased the Nyquist Insurance Agency in 1963 and changed the name to Don C. The second agency was the Bornholdt-Larson Agency started by H. In 1954, Norbert Tiemann (35th Nebraska Governor from 1967-1971) was a partner with Mr. Larson to form the Larson-Tiemann Agency. In approximately 1961, Gerald Gunderson became Mr. Tiemann's partner to form the Tiemann-Gunderson Agency. Their agency had a small amount of property & casualty business but they concentrated on hail insurance for the farmers. In 1965, the two agencies merged under the Don C. Pfeil Agency name. The partners in this agency were Mr. Tiemann and Mr. Gunderson. Lowell C. Erickson purchased Mr. Gunderson's interest to become associated with the agency in 1968 as an agent and Mr. Pfeil managed the agency during this period. Wausa Banshares, Inc. purchased the Don C. Pfeil Agency in 1970, and renamed it Wausa Insurance Agency at that time. Our agency was moved to the present location in the Commercial State Bank building under the direction of Mr. Erickson through April 2000 when he retired. Today the holding company owns the agency and is overseen by Russell Koehler and assisted by agent Ciara DeBilzan. We are a full lines agency with property and casualty, crop and life and health insurance coverage's. We thank you for the opportunity to be of service in your insurance needs.
