There are all kinds of ways to prepare and pay for it. AND yes some even have the means and support systems to self-fund for the cost and care needed down the road.

BUT IN ALL HONESTY, ITS A ROLL OF THE DICE AND YOU MAY HAVE BETTER ODDS IN VEGAS.

Self-funding or “self insuring" for LTC is usually nothing more than a bet, a gamble that, "It will never happen to me." It's an all-in bet, not just with money - it requires you to first push your family, their lives and lifestyle to middle of the table.

Self-funding for LTC requires a re-allocation of income and loss of lifestyle. For whom? The caregiving spouse. But most people can't afford to cash-flow $4000-$5000/month for part-time home care, and they can't risk their on-going financial security by invading their principal which provides the income.

So what do spouses (and adult children) do? They sacrifice everything starting with themselves. Honestly, at that point, when you’ve gambled on having the means and support what choice will they have?
