PSA from your local insurance team: Things to NOT do IF you have a grease fire:
- Do NOT throw water on it: Water spreads the fire and can cause explosive steam burns. Unless your goal is to create a spectacular backyard fireball of pure regret, keep the water far away from the grease.
- Do NOT play the "Peter Panic" card: Panicking, doing nothing, or just running away from the grill is a terrible strategy. Sprinting across the lawn screaming about your burgers won't help; it just gives the fire room to get completely out of control.
- Do NOT try to fan it down: Swatting at a grease fire with an apron, a dish towel, or a giant piece of cardboard doesn't put it out. It just feeds the flames fresh oxygen and potentially turns your favorite spatula into a flaming torch.
