A rainy ferry ride took us back to the mainland. Luckily we were able to sit inside.
We met our coach, loaded the luggage and headed to Grand Rapids and a visit to the Gerald Ford Presidential Museum. This is theb6th presidential museum I've visited.
After a fun evening at the GR downtown Embassy Suites, we loaded the coach for the final time and cruised on over to Detroit and the Henry Ford Museum, always a favorite! The Motor Muster car show is happening this weekend in Greenfield Village. It features hundreds of carefully restored vintage vehicles, military displays, live music, and immersive historical vignettes spanning 1933 to 1978. We were able to watch numerous cars coming in for the event. Our driver Hunter dropped us at the airport and we headed back to the Lou. Where an airport shuttle met us, loaded our luggage and too us back to The Loo (Waterloo).
Another fun tour is in the books.
If you missed Mackinac Island this year- dont worry we will return!

We enjoyed a morning tour and lunch at Fort Mackinac and the Tea Room. Such cool history and the view is unmatched and my favorite. I could sit and enjoy this view all day!

The Island House Hotel was our home for our 3 nights on the island! A large part of our group enjoyed the Icehouse restaurant and bar playing corn hole and enjoying cocktails and good company. The large covered porch and rocking chairs were a favorite place to enjoy the view.

Our first full day was filled with an island tour by horse drawn taxi, a delicious buffet lunch and an afternoon of exploring the The Grand Hotel and downtown Mackinac Island. The clouds moved out during our tour and was beautiful in the afternoon and evening.

As we prepared to leave Traverse City we were blessed to enjoy a beautiful, glass like view of Lake Michigan.
We then headed down the road a few minutes to The Music House Museum featuring a collection of rare antique musical instruments and music-making machines from 1870–1930, including player pianos, nickelodeons, and a large Belgian dance organ. Our private tour included live demonstrations of how the instruments work, and our knowledgeable guides explained the history and technology. One highlight was scenes from Laurel and Hardy's silent movie - 'The Pie Movie: The Battle of the Century' with sound effect accompaniment from antique instruments. So cool and very well done!
Mackinac City was our departure dock for our ferry to Mackinac Island-YEA! The day was beautiful and clear and we sat on the top and enjoyed the beautiful view of Mackinac Bridge.
We checked into our home for 3 nights The Island House Hotel. I love this hotel for its charm, view of the water, restaurant & two bars, proximity to the downtown area and level of service.
Stay tuned for updates on our island adventures!

Our Mackinac Island Escape tour began on Saturday as we flew into Detroit and made our way to Traverse City and Sleeping Bear Dunes. This lovely lakefront town was the perfect stop before we head north to the star attraction - Mackinac Island!
The attached photos show the amazing views we enjoyed from our waterfront balconies.
Steve our guide filled us in on the history of the area and led us through Sleeping Bear dunes National Lakeshore. ***Beautiful***
We also enjoyed lunch and shopping in Glen Arbor. Don't miss this town if you are in the area. The residents and shop owners are friendly and very welcoming. A few said it reminded them of Talkeetna, AK.
Stay tuned the next few days for updates on our Island adventures! The Island House Hotel is our home base during our 3 night Island stay. ❤️
