Five Young Leaders from Monroe County participated in a tour of New England with Illinois Farm Bureau Young Leaders. For the past few weeks, they've shared photos and memories of their trip.

Michaela Runge: Traveling through Vermont, New Hampshire, and Maine for the Ag Industry Tour was an experience I will not soon forget. We visited a Christmas tree farm🌲, dairy farms🐄, a compost facility, a maple farm🍁, a meat house🥩, a solar farm☀️, lobster farming operations🦞, a wild blueberry farm🫐, and a potato farm🥔. Each operation was unique, but one theme stood out: quality. No matter what was being produced, there was an incredible amount of pride and attention to detail that went into producing a quality product. This trip gave me a better understanding of agriculture outside my own backyard, new friendships, and new stories.🍁

Courtney Mosbacher: One of the most unique experiences of the Ag Industry Tour was catching fresh lobster. We had fun tour guides who shared historical knowledge of the area and the lobster industry. I was able to prepare the bait, check traps, instructed to “throw in back” in reference to putting a crab back that was in a trap, banded the lobster claws, and saw some seals. The best part was taking the fresh lobster into a nearby restaurant to eat. The evening was a great way to round out this trip, and a few of us topped it off with an ice-cream spot for dessert.🍨
