So...we refinanced our home way back in February. We were excited to lower our mortgage payment and get some of our escrow money back.
If you don't know what escrow money is, part of your mortgage payment to the lender goes into an account to pay for taxes, home owners insurance and sometimes mortgage insurance. This account can also change your mortgage payment because taxes go up and so does insurance. It is controlled by the mortgage lender and is often mismanaged.
When we refinanced we had over $2k in that account and we were excited to get that money back so we could fix some stuff on the house. Well...we only got around $640 back. I was upset and called the mortgage company. I was given the run around and told someone would call me back within a week or two. No call. So I called again and got a little more information and gave them my speech about getting the money back. I was again told I would get a call back ...no call. Called again and asked to talk to a manager. Told the whole story over and was told they would call back.
Long story short, I made several calls and got no where. I ended up having to write the company of my complaint. I added my title paperwork, payment statements and other documentation from the mortgage company. I even highlighted all the information. I probably have them over 20 pages of information along with my letter.
This week I finally got my response (about a month after I wrote them) and I am getting an additional $1100 ish back.
