Update from last week's post....

The little cutie on Santa's lap is my youngest daughter at age 8, the same age I was when my father passed away.

My dad had a life insurance policy that was designed to protect and cover the mortgage. The problem is, the value of the policy was not calculated correctly, leaving my mom and siblings to figure out how to pay the mortgage balance going forward.

September is Life Insurance Awareness Month, a topic few people want to talk about! I'd like to kick it off with a brief story:

Imagine an 8-year-old boy, sitting at the kitchen table with his 7 older siblings, 2 aunts, and his mom. His mom says, with a horrified look in her eyes, "I have some bad news, your father has passed."

This non-working mother of 8 has just lost her husband and had to tell her 8 kids that their father is dead. In an instant, their worlds were turned upside down. This mom would have to mourn the loss of her husband while trying to figure out how to pay the bills.

The older siblings would have to figure out how to continue their education while helping their mom care for the younger siblings, and contribute financially.

The younger siblings, unsure of what would happen, had no idea how their lives would be impacted.

This is my story. You see, I was that 8-year-old boy sitting at the kitchen table. Yes, this was a tragic event in my life, and the lives of my mom and siblings, but it didn't have to be as life-altering as it was
