The House Appropriations Committee has advanced the FY 2027 Labor, Health and Human Services, Education bill, which funds the NIH and other critical research and public health programs.
For the hematology community, robust investment at the NIH is essential to drive innovation toward cures and treatment of blood diseases such as sickle cell disease, leukemia, and other blood-related diseases. While the bill includes an increase for NIH and rejects several of the most severe proposed cuts, the NIH increase does not keep up with biomedical research inflation and it still proposes reductions to public health programs, including at the CDC.
Sustained and strengthened investments are critical to ensure progress continues for patients who depend on these advances.
