Last week, financial aid professionals from across the country met virtually to discuss Return of Title IV (R2T4) changes. Below are our key takeaways from the discussion:

🔑 Determining what is an institutional charge and what is not an institutional charge is a key factor when using the optional withdrawal exemption.

🔑 Return of Title IV Funds policies and procedures must be up-to-date and reflect how the institution implemented the changes that were effective July 1, 2026.

🔑 Do not conflate Return of Title IV Funds rules and Schedule of Reduction (SOR) calculations, as they are two separate functions, and the introduction of SOR did not change anything with R2T4 calculations.

🔑 Freeze dates are no longer required when calculating R2T4s when a student has enrolled in a modular course.
