Advocacy in Action in Illinois!

On Monday, Illinois Mortgage Bankers Association members Barbara Zajieck, James Harris, Hipolito Garcia, Jr., Faith Henderson, and Tim Galligan met with the top Vice Ranking Member of the House Financial Services Committee Rep. Sean Casten (D-IL), as part of MBA’s Advocacy in August campaign.

During an engaging and productive conversation, members shared how federal policy decisions affect borrowers, mortgage closings, housing inventory, veterans, and real estate finance professionals throughout the state. The discussion covered the potential effects of a government shutdown, VA Home Loan funding fees, the capital gains tax, and loan-level price adjustments.

This is Advocacy in Action.

Last Thursday, as part of MBAs Advocacy in August campaign, Washington MBA members met virtually with Amanda McKinney, candidate for Washington’s 4th Congressional District, to discuss issues affecting the real estate finance industry and communities across the state.


Members shared firsthand perspectives on housing affordability, the capital gains tax, and the real-world challenges facing real estate finance professionals. The conversation also explored Amanda McKinney’s interest in water conservation and how local environmental priorities can intersect with housing policy in Central Washington.

This past Wednesday marked the second bipartisan celebration this week recognizing the enactment of the 21st Century ROAD to Housing Act — now Public Law 119‑101. MBA was proud to co‑host this gathering alongside our trade partners: the National Association of REALTORS®, National Association of Home Builders, National Multifamily Housing Council, Bipartisan Policy Center, and the National Association of Affordable Housing Lenders (NAAHL).


Wednesday’s attendees heard from House Financial Services Committee Chairman French Hill (R-AR) and Ranking Member Maxine Waters (D-CA), alongside Housing and Insurance Subcommittee Chair Mike Flood (R-NE) and Ranking Member Emanuel Cleaver (D-MO), whose collective, bipartisan leadership was essential to advancing this consequential legislation. Their commitment to working across the aisle helped turn a shared priority into meaningful action for America’s families in need of housing.


The 21st Century ROAD to Housing Act is a powerful reminder of what’s possible when policymakers, advocates, and industry partners come together to address real‑world challenges.
